Who we prepare for
Five selective grammar schools make up the Trafford Consortium, and all are moving to the new FSCE entrance exam. Here's a short guide, and how to prepare.
The five schools
The Trafford Consortium is a group of five highly regarded selective state grammar schools. Entry to all of them is by the same 11+ entrance exam, which is moving to the new FSCE format:
A selective boys' grammar school in Altrincham, part of the Trafford Consortium.
A selective girls' grammar school in Altrincham, part of the Trafford Consortium.
A selective co-educational grammar school in Sale.
A selective co-educational grammar school in Stretford.
A selective co-educational grammar school in Urmston.
The entrance exam
Children sit a single entrance exam for the consortium, which is moving to the FSCE — testing English and Maths, and possibly Creative Writing — though that has not been officially announced — rather than the standalone reasoning of the old GL exam. Because the FSCE is new to Trafford, some details are still being confirmed by the schools. Our FSCE explained page covers what is known so far.
How to prepare
The strongest preparation builds genuine understanding of English and Maths and confident, structured writing — calmly and over time, rather than through last-minute cramming. At Novel Tuition we run a dedicated FSCE programme from our Altrincham office, one-to-one or in small groups, and we keep it updated as the schools confirm more about the new exam.
